Mark Turpen Scholarship

The Orion Area Parade Group is proud to sponsor a scholarship in the name of Mark Turpen,
a friend of the OAPG. Mark passed away in 2004 but left a legacy of community support and involvement that is still celebrated by the OAPG today.

In his memory, we support the Mark Turpen Scholarship Fund to award a graduating high school senior $1000 annually toward college tuition in a Humanities program.

About Mark

Mark Turpen was a proud Orion resident. He loved his family, friends, neighborhood and his community and had a special gift of connecting with people. He was a proud graduate of both the University of Michigan business school and law school. Helping others was a natural instinct and he was especially interested in seeing young people reach their potential. Mark had a most infectious laugh, shared it freely and often. He was also a very humble man and probably would not want the attention these words bring to him now.

About the Scholarship

The Mark Turpen Scholarship is to recognize young people in Orion that exude optimism about the future, have the ambition to make change for the better and, above all, aspire to help others in need.

Download our Turpen Scholarship Application for more information about applying for this award. Applications must be submitted to the Orion Area Parade Group by May 3, 2017. Our scholarship will be awarded at the LOHS Honors Convocation Awards Night on May 30, 2017.
